Venue (About): Jungdong 1928 Art Center

• Jeongdong 1928 Art Center was built in 1928 to train salvation army and missionary and use as a headquarter of social works in Korea.

• The construction funds of this building had been appropriated by donations from U.S. military officers and salvation army members, and construction began in November 1927 and completed a two-story brick building in 1928.

• The first name of the building was Salvation Military Academy, and the exterior of the building was simple excluding complex decorations. In particularly, it makes you feel stable such as left-right symmetry centered on upper of entrance door containing a triangular gable called 'Hammer beam'. In addition, unique roof structure making a harmony with details stands out. The exterior of the brickwork and the four pillars of the central entrance faithfully reflect the neoclassical style.

• From 1955 to 1981, it was also used as the Korean headquarters of the Salvation Army. After small renovation in 1959, the Salvation Army's main office moved in. Since then, this building has called Gu-sae-goon (Salvation army in Korean) Central center. It maintains the original form of the time of construction relatively well now even a lot of times has passed by. Because of that, it is ranked as one of the top 10 buildings built in Seoul in 1920s and was designated as Seoul Metropolitan Government Monument No. 20 in 2002 in recognition of this value.

• It also shows the history of the Salvation Army, which experienced the trauma of the Korean War and the modernization process of Korea from Japanese colonial era to the shrine visit.

• Since 2019, the Jungdong 1928 Art Center has been established and operated as an open complex culture and art space now.
